Bio: Eugenio obtained a PhD in Physics from Università degli Studi di Parma, in the field of Theoretical Physics and Cosmology. The focus of his research was the development of semi-analytical approaches to study the evolution of the Large Scale Structure of the Universe. His dissertation involved a method for the robust extraction of the Baryonic Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) signature from spectroscopic galaxy surveys. After his PhD he worked as a Data Scientist in the IT private sector, developing machine learning prediction models in the banking and fashion industries. He has joined the staff of the Global Policy Lab since 2021, where he has been working as a Data Scientist.

Research: Eugenio's main interest is in the Aerial History Project, turning a large collection of historical aerial photographs into a dataset that can be employed in econometric and environmental research. The scale of the project poses a unique challenge: more than 1.6 million images need to be stitched together to form a coherent mosaic. In order to be able to make a comparison with modern-day data, geographical coordinates need to be assigned to the image pixels. This requires state-of-the art computer vision techniques for the detection, matching and geo-referencing of relevant visual features, as well as some innovative strategy for adjusting and deploying the pipeline at the required scale.

Eugenio is also involved in the creation and maintenance of the lab's MOSAIK API as a software developer.
