Bio: Jay is a third-year Ph.D. student in the Agricultural and Resource Economics Department at UC Berkeley and a trainee in the Data Sciences for the 21st century NSF Research Traineeship Program. Prior to graduate school, he earned a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics at the University of Minnesota.
Research: Jay’s interests lie in advancing and employing the theory and methodology developed by the international trade and economic geography literatures to answer questions at the intersection of development, agriculture and the environment. Currently, he is also examining whether trade leads firms to adopt energy efficient technologies. Additionally, he is part of a project examining how incorporating specific features of commodities into a model of trade changes the welfare implications of removing trade barriers for countries around the world.
